Clach air do Chàrn (A Stone on Your Cairn) 2024 From the Inner Hebridean Isles of Ulva and Mull, Clan MacQuarrie is one of the four oldest clans in Scottish history. This project explores the weight of time and the inherent responsibility to understand one’s lineage. It focuses on the geological makeup of land, examining the adjacencies between natural and man-made archives of time: reading rocks as one reads a family tree. Assessing the land around me through an archival lens has profoundly shaped my relationship to the places I call home. I have come to know geology as a powerful tool, transcending time, distance and mortality. This is my homage to Scotland, its geology and to my family. More importantly, it is a testament to the importance of archiving. “Clach air do Chàrn” is a Scottish Gaelic vow of remembrance originating in the tradition of placing stones on memorial cairns. A gesture of presence, a promise not to forget.
